Living with family
S1:
Hi everyone, what does it mean to you to live with family?
S2:
Living with family is AN OPPORTUNITY TO provide you A good chance to look after them and take care OF them WHEN THEY ARE SICK. AND THEY CAN HELP ME IF I have some problem. (or they are sick.)
S3:
For me living with family means when you are living with your mother and father, and you have to take care of them. It is better because when you are living with your parents, you can get a lot of experiences from them and you can easily go through your difficulties with those experiences.*
S4:
to live with family is good opportunity to take care of each other and also if you don’t have a wife or a husband if you don’t marry and you stay with your parents it’s also you can take care of your parents and for parents it’s also a good possibility to see what the child do and not to worry so much about your living and anyway you can also so stay in the atmosphere when you teach your when you study something of from them and they also make your life more happy
(capitals have been added to the text)
* perhaps here it’d be better to say “you can learn from their experiences and that can help you in going through your own difficulties”
S1: I consider that it is important to share with them to have a moment just for a couple of hours maybe some holidays like Christmas or maybe some birthdays. But for living all of us in the same house I don’t think that I would like to do that. I think that I consider that everybody must have their own space in their own privacy
S2: I would agree with Alex that I would like to have my family also with my relatives even if you’re so in different places. By this we can support each other, help in difficult times and of course we will be able to socialise and have some funny, celebrate holidays .
S3: Ok thank you Peter so it appears that we agree on the fact that it’s not so good to be living always in the family.
Countries and languages
S1:
Hello my name is Maria I am from Italy and in Italy the official national language is Italian. Everybody speaks Italian but in spite of the small dimension of Italy there are many different dialects according to the regions. Moreover in the North part of Italy there are some people speaking … who speaks German because they are on the border with the Switzerland and Austria.
S2:
My name is John, I’m from Ukraine and in my usual life I am speaking Russian. People who lives in the western part of Ukraine, they are speak Ukrainian but we understand each other and can speak on both the languages.
S3:
Hello everyone my name Alexander, I live Uzbekistan, capital Tashkent. Most of people who live in Uzbekistan they speak native Uzbek language. Also, I think, 90% they can speak Russian, with accent. Usually we have very hot weather and …
S4:
I agree with Alex that the majority of people living in Uzbekistan speak Uzbek and Russian but the country is rather big and in different areas you can find people speaking Tajik or Karakalpak or Kazakh languages and there are many dialects in different areas of the country people speak different dialects of Uzbek language.
S2:
What additional languages would you like to speak?
S4:
I would like to speak French.
S1:
I would like to speak Chinese because I am studying it and it it to be able to speak it it’s very far away thing to do
S3:
For my opinion I would like to speak additional language like German also I can speak little bit German and little bit English.
S1:
Ok Melina tell me please, where are you from and what is the most common languages in your country.
S2:
I’m from Ukraine and the most common language in my country is Ukrainian.
S3:
Konstantin what is your favourite language apart from your mother tongue?
S1:
OK, guys, tell me what opportunities does learning a new language give you?
S2:
As a person who loves learning different languages I can say that it give each person lots of different opportunities for example you can communicate with people from different parts of the world in their native language and they will understand you and more than English for example. So the first positive thing is the communication and the other thing is that you get to know the culture of different countries and there’s lots of things in the language that can help you to understand the culture better. Different languages give you a different point of view on everything in life. For example some languages have gender, grammatical gender, they see the world differently through that language than the languages which don’t have this type of thing. So I think it’s important to know lots of languages, at least 4 or 5 language, to be able to see the world more clearly and you can know your native language better by learning other people’s native languages.
Talk about anything
S1: Where are you living?
Do you like living in your country? May be you can tell us a bit?

S3: Eight months ago, I attended (the) Duolingo event for my first time.
S2: Gentlemen, what was your impression?
S3: My first impression was the host is friendly to a new students.
S1: My great impression on using Doulingo was that teachers are very generous and they don’t take money, teaching English for free.
S2: What languages are you learning on Duolingo?
S1: I am currently learning 2 languages, Chinese and English.
S3: I am learning English and French, but mostly I am learning English because it is more applicable to everyday life.
S2: You are polyglots?
S1: Yes I am a polyglot, I can speak 5 or 6 languages.
S3: Yes, I am a polyglot because I can speak 3 languages. The first one is Thai which is my native language. The second one is English and the third one is French, at a basic level.
S2: I am very glad to meet you. This is a great honour to meet you, gentlemen.
S1: It’s great to meet you too.
S3: It is really nice to meet you all because you all are really good friends.
Are ghosts real?
S1: Hey john have ever seen ghost in your life?
S2: I don’t believe it ghosts at all, what about you, Polly
S1: I believe in ghosts but I think it is just some unknown phenomena, that we, human being still couldn’t find a way to explain it
S3: I believe in ghosts because some of my friends have told me that they met with ghosts sometime
S2: I have never ever seen ghost, unfortunately, but I think it would be great experience of my life. I want to believe I’ll see ghosts in future. Let me be honest I’m ghost HA-HA-HA
S1: Hello, Nadia. I wanna ask quite a random question. Do you think ghosts are actually real ?
S2: No. I don’t think that ghost are real.
S1: By the way, have you experienced something related to ghost in your life ?
S2: One time, I experienced that during the tour when the tourist guide was speaking about this lady as a ghost. The air move from the sky into the room and move the curtain, so it was a strange movie effect.
S1: When I was in high school, I lived in a dormitory and when you’re sick, you stay alone in the dormitory, you can also hear ghosts playing basketball in the corridor or the children that are crying along the corridor. But when I was sick, being alone also in the dormitory, I have no such experience.
Managing anxiety
S1: Hey Hiba, Kay. Could you explain your way or share your way to manage anxiety ? It would be great.
S2: My way of overcoming anxiety is to do exercises and stay on a healthy diet and eat healthy food. For example, if we do yoga, it will really remove all the negative thoughts from our mind and that’ll really help us a lot to manage anxiety.
And also if we eat healthy food, like vegetables or fruits, that’ll help us a lot because the more healthy we eat the more it makes our body fit so the body will become healthy and strong. And also having a good night’s sleep is very important.
S3: To me, everytime I feel worry, I will take a bottle of beer because I think alcohol is one of kind of medicine, can affect the central nervous system. I also think drinking can reduce fear and help me feel more confident, tune my mood up and make me feel a little bit more relaxed. So I can get rid of my anxiety and that’s my way.
S1: Kay, Hiba, I completely agree with both of you. You, Hiba, works with a reason of anxiety. You, Kay, work with particularly with anxiety. I guess I completely agree with both of you. I just wanna have one more possible way. So, we’re human, we have brain and the fastest way is to just control yourself consciously and keep your feelings, that works faster. It’s possible. Thank you.
S1
I am not sure that I have anxiety now because I am working right now, and when you are working you’re in some sense out of anxiety. So maybe the answer to the question “how to avoid anxiety?” is working, working and working.
S2
I have anxiety if something is uncertain and then it has a major effect in my life.
At this moment I only have to wait for the diploma certificate so I can say I am not particularly in that state but I think we have this global anxiety because of the pandemic.
S3
Right now i don’t feel anxious.
I don’t want to be anxious;
so i don’t want to think about the future as I don’t want to be anxious;
S1
It’s like a worm in an apple; you eat apple for example and you have questions inside your brain; there is a worm in this apple or not and you’re trying to eat this apple very carefully because maybe you have a worm inside.
S1: Whenever I’m feeling anxious I try to get away or stop thinking about the issue. I’m trying to focus on breathing in and out, so taking deep breath, inhaling and exhaling two or three minutes, it helps to calm me down. Sometimes I call up friends, any friends who might chill me up, or I watch funny videos on YouTube. Another thing that helps me is music. I sometimes put on the music so loud. I also find that doing something with my hands or my legs useful, maybe washing vessels, cleaning the house, going for walk, cycling, etc.
Being lost in a strange place
If I would be in the desert, my first feeling will be fear. In the second minute, I would think no, it’s not happened to me. Next, I would think something surreal in this moment. I feel like a sailor which lost in the middle of the ocean. I feel like that which his boat lost in the middle of the ocean and I’m swimming on the smaller raft and no one around me.
The place I choose to be lost is the same as yours, it’s the desert again. And If I would lost in the desert and the first feeling would be the same as yours, I would feel completely frightened, panic. I wouldn’t know what to do, so I have to get back my spirits and pick out a way to find a way back to some known places. And how I’m gonna to do that ? I don’t know. So I’ll probably die because I’m not that smart to get out of.
Maybe you have some compass or map ?
Yeah, because I lost I don’t think I will bring any compass. So, I will be completely lost and then I have to remember about the books I have read when I was younger about adventures in the desert, how to navigate. Yeah, to get out my self from the desert
Does anybody have an experience being lost ?
I remembered I was lost in Bangkok in 2019.
Do you think it was good or bad experience ?
Personally, I considered it as a good experience despite the overwhelming feelings at that moment. It has inspired me to explore more of the other places
I guess this is a good experience forced you leave your comfort zone and looking for way for survived.
Arranging to meet after work
S2: How is it going?
S1: I’m doing great and you?
S2: Thank you, I’m fine. Do you have time after work?
S1: Yes I’ve got some free time today. Do you wanna also invite John?
S3: Thank you for the invitation, unfortunately I’m busy tonight.
S2: Hey John, c’mon. The more, the merrier. Okay, we can make an arrangement based on your free time. Just tell me when you are free.
S3: Sorry I am busy today, shall we meet tomorrow?
S1: I’m kind of bored of the old place. Shall we go to a new place that’s just opened?
S3: I changed my mind, I am going to join you but a bit later.
S2: OK guys, I know a place. And most of my friends suggested that place, maybe we can go there, let’s check it out. OK then, as usual, right after work.
